The international section
The school currently has 14 classes, including “international section” classes in which pupils choose to learn German for 4 hours (CE2), 5 hours (CM1) or 6 hours (CM2) a week. These teaching hours are divided between learning the language with a language assistant, and discovering German culture. A UPE2A teacher works several times a week at the school, which caters for around ten allophone pupils.
Impact for the whole school
Within the school, teachers share their pupils’ discoveries with the other children in the school: the students meet with first-grade classes to introduce them to Germanic calendar holidays, and a number of meetings are organized outside the walls (tradition of the Schultüte made by the grown-ups and given to the CPs, torchlight procession for St Martin’s Day, carnival). Students from local nursery schools are included in these projects.
