The fifth mobility event in the ENIEDE project recently took place at the European School of Brussels III, bringing together Linda and Marie from the Saint Roch elementary school in Avignon. This visit follows on from the mobility program carried out last March in Avignon, and took place in the unique setting of this European school.

The European School Brussels III stands out for its special educational system, designed to cater for the children of the staff of the European institutions. Students are divided into seven national sections (French, German, Greek, Czech, English, Dutch and Italian), and follow the courses of their home country. Every day, they meet for 45 minutes (30 minutes for the younger ones) for their second language class, and it was as part of this class that they took part in the ENIEDE project. The school was recently awarded the Eco-Ecole label, in recognition of its efforts to promote sustainable development.

The objectives of the mobility program were to :

  • Discover the European school system.
  • Understand how a village was integrated into this context.
  • Discover the actions carried out by students and the school.
  • Exchange ideas and run workshops on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Evaluate the project.

Program and schedule

Monday: Observation and Discovery

The day began with an observation of the P5 class (CM2) during an activity focusing on the SDGs. The students revisited the various actions carried out in the school since the start of the year, realizing that they hadn’t fully realized their link with the SDGs studied in their French class since October. We then observed the French lessons of the P2 (CE1) and P1 (CP) classes, which were special in that each lasted only 30 minutes. Finally, a P4 class (CM1) enabled us to see students classify various everyday actions according to their sustainability, accompanied by adults to further their reasoning.

Tuesday: Practice and Action

The day began in the same way with the P5 class, continuing the previous day’s activity by classifying the actions carried out under the corresponding SDGs and creating posters for the exhibition planned for Earth Day the following day. After the P2 and P1 classes, the P4 class continued the work of classifying and creating posters. The day was also devoted to an in-depth evaluation of the project, focusing on the value of the students’ skills within the ENIEDE project.

Wednesday: International Earth Day

The morning was dedicated to displaying the posters created by P5 students in the school hall, along with the corresponding SDGs and actions. P2 and P1 classes followed, then P4 students identified the school’s actions and the sources of information to find them. The day highlighted collective efforts and celebrated Earth Day in a meaningful way.

This fifth mobility was an enriching experience for all participants, offering immersion in the unique European education system of the European School Brussels III and enabling fruitful exchanges around the SDGs. The students not only became aware of their actions in favor of sustainable development, but also actively contributed to the celebration of Earth Day, thus consolidating the objectives of the ENIEDE project.
